Fatal Mistake #1

You don't have your own domain name, website and web host.

It's okay to sell other people's products but you won't build YOUR BUSINESS by advertising their website! When you sign up for their Affiliate Program (reseller program) they will often provide you with a free website. Most of the time it is not a true website but simply a mirror site - i.e. their website with a script that tacks your affiliate ID on the end.

Think about this for a moment. It's not your website really and even if it were, it's not hosted by you and so you don't control ANYTHING. I discovered this lesson the hard way. The affiliate owners were a web hosting company. To be an affiliate you had to open a hosting account for a bit under $14.00 a month. This didn't worry me as I had my own website and it needed to be hosted somewhere. I managed to build a nice little downline quite quickly where I was into profit by about $40 a month. I worked closely with my signups as they needed step-by-step guidance and they were very grateful for this assistance. I felt proud of what I was doing and I could see my profit going up and up. I thought "Finally, I've found a way to stop the cash drain and actually make money online"!

WRONG!

Problem: My credit card was maxed one month and even though the hosting company owed me affiliate commissions, they terminted my account when my $14.00 a month payment didn't go through! They could have contacted me or simply deducted the $14.00 from commissions due to me. Not only did they not pay me the commission owed, I lost my downline and future residual commissions as well.

From that time on, I made sure that I not only had my own domain name and website, BUT my own web host as well!

What you need to appreciate is that there is little value in sending traffic directly to an affiliate link. Most people don’t buy on their first visit anyway so you're wasting a lot of your time, money and effort. Sure, there are a few companies that will follow up prospects for you but not many. In any case, all you're really doing, is building a client base for them - not you!

Don't spend all your time, money and effort promoting some other business and THEIR website all over the place. Your OWN website is your online shop. It allows you to offer lots of products rather than just one. Without it, you can be in for grief!!

The key is to promote yourself!

Fatal Mistake # 2

You suffer from Information Overload.

Jumping from one program to the other in the hope of finding an answer to why you aren't succeeding online is FATAL. The mountain of information (sales pitches would be a better word for it) that you are bombarded with every day, especially via email, STOPS you from getting anywhere. Every time you turn around, there's some great new giveaway, ebook or script you can buy or get for free. NOTHING is FREE. At the very least, the cost to you is in having to join yet another Mailing List in order to get the free product. AND so it goes on - you now have someone else bombarding you with more sales pitches for an endless array of more products! In the business, this is called Information Paralysis.

One of the fundamental things you MUST DO if you want to succeed, is cease being a victim of this sort of temptation! You need to stop wasting your energy and resources in this way IMMEDIATELY! Stay away from membership sites where they want to charge you anywhere from $75 - $197 or more a month. How do you expect to make a dollar this way?

FOCUS ON ONE PROGRAM - ONE PLAN!

Fatal Mistake # 3

You have unrealistic expectations.

When people first start out, the majority of them are attracted to the idea of overnight riches. Even later when they have been burnt time and time again, they STILL get sucked in with images of exotic locations, big fancy houses, sports cars and promises of big money ...... all this without much work and from home just using your computer!

The same goes for the Internet. Most of your website visitors will NOT sign up for a product on their first visit to your site. Statistically, you need need to follow them up 5 - 8 times before they'll buy.

So, if you don't have an Opt-In Form and Lead Capture Page, you won't even know who these people are. You couldn't follow them up even if you wanted to! Creating these basic tools is not difficult and we will show you precisely how to do this.

You also need an automated follow-up system in the form of an autoresponder. It is simply too difficult to consider doing this manually. Why? For two basic reasons. A personal recommendation from you will produce far more sales than any "killer sales letter" and you won't be at the mercy of Affiliate Program owners who decide to terminate your account for no good reason or otherwise disappear into the Internet graveyard!

Your Opt-In Form Capture Page is not only crucial to following up on prospects, it is also an essential tool for building your own email list.

Sometimes, the hard part for many people is not that they don't have a Lead Capture Page, Opt-in Form and Autoresponder, it's just that they don't know how to use them effectively to build their own Mailing List.

Even IF they do manage to build a Mailing List, they don't know what to do with it! Many Internet Marketers abuse their Mailing List by revamping and regurgitating old products or by quickly signing up for something new (almost daily) and then flogging it onto you - time and time and time again.
